OSI Group: Progression Through Constant Innovation

With over 65 facilities and 20,000 employees around the world, OSI Group is one of the largest and most respected food providers. OSI Group’s story is a prime example of the American dream in where a German immigrant new to the country was able to create his own butcher services on a lonely corner of Chicago and grow it the incredible heights we see today. Today, OSI Group continues to not only grow but introduce new innovative technologies and strategies to society.

It was, however, during the postwar economic expansion when we really began to see what OSI Group was capable of and how hungry they were to make a name for themselves in the industry. Ray Kroc, founder of the Mcdonalds food chain restaurants would be the first one to challenge OSI Group in the form of a partnership which placed the task of not only producing the meat products for Mcdonalds but also in creating a way in which the meats distributed across the country would be uniform in taste. Needless to say, the product and the Ray Kroc’s Mcdonald’s concept was a huge hit, this positive turn of events led to the building of a plant dedicated solely to producing McDonald products in 1973.

The 80s led to the introduction of CEO Sheldon Lavin whos next challenge for the company was to venture out of the country and continue its growth in other markets. His past experience as an investor and banking executive provided the much-needed skill of negotiation for the company when it came time to establish facilities on foreign lands. Almost three decades later and OSI Group is one of the largest companies in the world according to a recent 2016 Forbes Magazine publication. There is no doubt that we will continue to see growth and progression from all sectors of OSI in the coming years.
